We don’t like to brag, but there is a reason why so many of our guests become return visitors to the Inn at Woodhaven. It’s the same reason we were honored with Select Registry’s 2025 Craft Lodging Excellence Award for New Member of the Year.

We love nothing more than going out of our way to create moments that guests will remember for the rest of their lives. As innkeepers, creating that magic comes down to seven specific things that we do to deliver a 5-star experience to our vacation and staycation guests.
Staying at a Historic, Boutique Inn
Surrounded by lush gardens, the Inn at Woodhaven is located in a beautiful historic building that dates back to Louisville’s Gilded Age. The Inn was built in the early 19th century and it has kept all of its original features. Inside, marvel at the original plasterwork on the ceiling or stop at one of the charming window to see the many trees that were planted centuries ago by the original owner.
When we took over as innkeepers of the Inn at Woodhaven, we were delighted by the thoughtful preservation of so many rich and charming architectural details. As a bit of history buffs ourselves, we loved the challenge of introducing modern luxuries while preserving the old character.
Way 1: Timeless Elegance of our Rooms
In many ways, each room you step into is like stepping back into a bygone era. We have invested extensively in refurbishing and restoring these historic details, while also ensuring that our guests are met with so many of the comforts we enjoy today— including newly renovated bathrooms, fresh pillows and plush mattresses, and gas fireplaces in several of the rooms.
Each of our luxurious eight rooms comes with plenty of amenities and has been carefully designed around a theme. Just to highlight a few:
- The Derby Room: With a private patio and entrance as well as stunning exposed brick walls, this room has bags of personality. As the name suggests, the decor reflects Kentucky’s most favorite event.
- The Hearth Room: While its large fireplace is no longer used for cooking, it does make for a warm and cozy room. Unwind in one the fireside seats or use it to complete your trip for the ultimate romantic getaway.
- The Cupola Room: This room is situated in the old carriage house near the property and comes with luxurious amenities such as a two-person whirlpool and a reading area with comfy chairs.
- The Theodore Brown Room: Named after the person who built the Inn, the original features and 19th century color-palette make this the perfect choice for any guest craving some old-world charm.

Our Gourmet Breakfast
Yes, breakfast is in the name of what we do and we take that roll, I mean role, seriously. Yes, we agree it’s the most important meal of the day. But a well-rounded vacation experience means more than handing you a slice of our oh-so-perfectly crisped bacon and sending you on your way. Here are three ways we strive to exceed expectations when it comes to keeping you fed.
Way 2: Fresh-Baked Cookies & Cordials
There is nothing like spending a day walking the grounds of Churchill Downs or touring Kentucky’s famous Bourbon Trail to work up an appetite. You don’t want anything too big because the culinary scene around Louisville is not to be missed. Never fear— Mark always has a jar of home-made cookies waiting for you in the hall of the Inn at Woodhaven.
Then, when you’re finally ready to retreat, swing by the parlor to enjoy one of our cordials. Our treat for all adult guests (over the age of 21). Then retire to the plush custom-made, European Kingsdown mattress in your private room. These small, but important details are part of our way to say “thanks for staying with us.”

Way 3: We’ll Pack you a Picnic
The city of Louisville has an incredible park system, many of which were designed by the renowned landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. As one of America’s leading designer of outdoor spaces, the Olmsted firm has provided plans for no less than 18 different Louisville parks!
Whether you choose to explore the beautiful, scenic loop in Cherokee Park or go in search of adventure in Iroquois Park, walking the trails or catching a local outdoor concert shouldn’t leave you starving for more. With plenty of snacks and drinks, our chic picnic lets you sit down in any of them for a lunch in style.

Way 4: But the Breakfast
I know we said this section was about more than just breakfast, but we’d be remiss not to mention what makes our breakfast stand out from many other bed & breakfast locations. Some people envision the morning meal at a bed and breakfast to be whatever the innkeeper chooses, served when they choose, around a large table shared by other guests.
While we’re all about community, we know that our visitors enjoy an experience that is a bit more flexible with their schedule. So whether you’re joining us after a late-night flight or you are of the early-bird variety, you can enjoy your meal from 7:30 to 9:30 am each day, with our continental breakfast available at 7:00 am. For your enjoyment, our dining room is furnished with separate tables and fine china.
And let’s talk about the menu! From our savory cage-free eggs and crisp bacon to our organic fruit and signature caramel french toast casserole (and more), there are options for everyone. We are proud to offer gluten free options, vegan sausage, and egg whites to accommodate certain dietary restrictions— but please let us know before you arrive if you’ll be needing any of these.

Then, book your reservation for dinner and enjoy a $50 gift certificate to Watch Hill Proper bourbon bar & kitchen. Watch Hill Proper boasts the largest bourbon collection in the U.S. Finish off the experience by indulging in an “Envy of Angels” bourbon flight once you return to the Inn in the evening.

Way 6: The Revive & Rejuvenate Detox Retreat

We’ve teamed up with local business, Cryo-Lounge, for you to receive a two-hour visit to their facility that includes:
- a full-body cryotherapy session
- a localized cryotherapy treatment

And as if this weren’t enough, you also get time in their soothing infrared sauna, which is easily one of our favorite things in the world. But the detox journey doesn’t end there.
